Love Yourself !
I LOVE YOU! Three magic words that can have a strong impact with a ripple effect far beyond what we can imagine. But why we’re always waiting that someone… somewhere… someday… will say those magic words to us?
Love is a feeling, a strong emotion, love is a way of being. It doesn’t have to be necessarily towards another. That warm feeling, that smile, that happiness, can’t it simply come from loving ourselves? To be loved, you must first love yourself as much as you love others.
First of all to make things clear, loving yourself does not mean to be selfish or narcissistic. Loving yourself means to take good care of yourself, and then it will be easy to take care of others. It’s like what they say on planes: Put your own oxygen mask on first before assisting others.
Breakups, death of someone you loved, lost opportunities, lost possibilities, setbacks… are very difficult moments that we all experience in life and sometimes they bring us to feel miserable, out of our mind, sick and desperate.
Dealing with life problems and setbacks begins with loving yourself and be forgiving with yourself.
Here are three tips to help you love yourself:
Commitment To Love Yourself
Make a commitment to yourself that from now on you will love yourself truly and deeply. You can write a commitment pledge that says, for instance:
I promise to love myself each day, no matter how much life throws at me!
Once you have made this commitment and you really intend to keep it, you put yourself in the right frame of mind to achieve it.
Developing a Positive Mindset
We have the power to choose our thoughts and thus our feelings. The problem is that it’s often easier to think negatively than positively. So we have to develop a positive mindset.
Often what we think becomes our reality. If you worry, then you will find things to worry about. If you’re optimistic, opportunities will arise, good people and good things will be drawn towards you.
Recalling unpleasant memories from the past creates a lot of negative thoughts. We all have made mistakes in the past. The key is to let the past go.
Try to eliminate negative thoughts by identifying the sources and stop allowing them influence you. Let positive thoughts and feelings dominate most of your emotions.
You can also change the way you talk to yourself through affirmations. Affirmations are statements that you repeat to yourself. Often these are bad affirmations, such as:
- I’m in a bad mood
- I’m lazy
- I’m a loser …
The more you repeat these negative statements to yourself, the more you start to believe them and so your problems and insecurities rise up. Therefore you can start making positive affirmations. By repeating new positive statements, you can program them into your mind and they will become your new reality.
When you’re by yourself, say your affirmations out loud! Things like:
- I love myself
- I’m pretty good at this
- I have super high self-esteem
- I am a winner
- My life is fun ….
It will feel awkward at first, but in time it will become natural and you will notice the benefits.
Just as you need to keep working out in order to keep your body healthy, so too do you need to maintain your new positive thoughts to keep your mind full of love and hope for the future.
Take Care Of Your Body
The mind and body work together. The body needs to be a good foundation for the mind and spirit. Therefore getting in shape will not only make you look better, but also you will have more self-confidence and self-esteem.
Dressing well, staying clean, working out and eating right will help you obtain higher status and will increase the enjoyment of life.
Loving Yourself Through Others
Helping other people and bringing them joy will help you: find joy in your own life, get rid of negative emotions, and improve your sense of self-worth.
Finally, I want to share a wonderful scene from the movie Angel-A that I really loved! It’s an attempt to describe how it feel to love yourself.
